Lilo & Stitch is the latest animated live-action film adapted from the animated film format titled Lilo & Stitch (2002). The latest release carries a combination of live-action and animation because the character Stitch as the main character is still in animated form.
Lilo & Stitch tells the story of a girl named Lilo's adventures. She is a loner who adopts an adorable alien resembling a koala named Stitch. Lilo Pelekai (Maia Kealoha) is a six-year-old native Hawaiian girl who lives her life as an orphan.
He has many hobbies in various fields, from hula dancing, surfing, to exploring nature. He is very imaginative, but also often rebellious. This trait then makes him have to face a number of problems, including being ostracized by his classmates because he is often considered strange.
As a result, they often cause problems that make Nani have to deal with child protection services. The agency even threatens to separate Nani and Lilo, and place Lilo in an orphanage. Until then, Lilo suddenly meets an alien resembling a blue koala.
The alien turns out to be the result of an illegal genetic experiment often referred to as Experiment 626. She then decides to adopt the alien to be Lilo's pet dog, and names him Stitch. Unbeknownst to her, Stitch was actually genetically created as a tool of destruction.
This design makes Stitch an unpredictable, impulsive, and very strong creature. However, beyond all that, Stitch has an adorable appearance and behavior that makes Lilo love him even more. Lilo even begins to teach Stitch about life on Earth, such as the Hawaiian principle of 'ohana' which means family.
However, they also have to deal with a tense situation when Dr. Jumba Jookiba (Zach Galifianakis) comes down to Earth to capture Stitch. Jumba is an evil scientist who created Stitch and wants to get him back. Lilo & Stitch itself is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp.
He is the same director who directed Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021). On the other hand, the script for the Lilo & Stitch film was written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes. The live-action version follows in the footsteps of the original Lilo & Stitch film that aired in 2002.
At that time, the animated film from Disney was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Chris Sanders as the creator and original voice actor of Stitch also returned to voice Stitch in Lilo & Stitch (2025). This film also served as a debut for child actor Maia Kealoha.
