South Korean actor Choi Woo Shik has been offered a role in a new drama titled Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid. This drama is adapted from a webtoon of the same name.
On Friday, July 25, 2025, FABLE COMPANY, Choi Woo Shik's agency, responded, "Choi Woo Shik received an offer for the drama Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid and is reviewing it."
This drama is a development of the children's story The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen with a setting in 1926 in the Gyeongseong era.
The story focuses on Kang Ui Hyeon, a man who dedicates himself and his life to the country and Su A, a woman who tries to look after Ui Hyeon.The role of Kang Ui Hyeon was offered to Choi Woo Shik, a trilingual elite.
He owns a photo studio while also working as an activist and trying to become a judge without his father's help. Kang Ui Hyeon also interacts with Su A, a 17-year-old girl who works as a maid for a Japanese man.
If Choi Woo Shik accepts this offer, this drama will be the latest project he will play this year. Apart from this drama, Woo Shik is also preparing for his newest drama, Would You Marry Me with Jung So Min.
