American actor James Van Der Beek reportedly died on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, United States time. His wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, shared the news on social media.
"Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and blessings," Kimberly wrote. "There was much shared about his hopes, love for humanity, and comfort for the times.
Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend," he continued. James Van Der Beek died of stage 3 bowel cancer. He revealed his illness for the first time in November 2024.
"I have colon cancer. I'm dealing with it privately and taking steps to resolve it with the support of my family," James Van Der Beek told People. James Van Der Beek is an actor who has appeared in many series and films.
His best known role is Dawson Leery in the series Dawson's Creek. Some of her series credits include Ugly Betty, How I Met Your Mother, Law & Order, Modern Family, and Overcompensating. He also stars in the series Elle, which will be released this year.
In terms of films, Van Der Beek played roles in Varsity Blues, The Big Bang, Labor Day, Downsizing, and Bad Hair, which was his last film. James Van Der Beek leaves behind a wife and six children at the age of 48.
