The character Seong Gi Hun played by South Korean actor Lee Jung Jae is back with his full performance in the latest season of Squid Game. Unfortunately, in the last season of Squid Game, Gi Hun died to save baby Kim Jun Hee (Jo Yu Ri) who was participant number 222.

Gi Hun and baby 222 were the last two participants in the Squid Game to win the prize of 45.6 billion Won. When Jun Hee decided to end her life in the rope jumping game, she told Gi Hun to keep her baby safe.

When he was the last two participants, Gi Hun decided to end his life so that Jun Hee's baby would be safe and become the winner. Gi Hun's death also became one of the tragic moments in the latest season of Squid Game.

Many regretted that Gi Hun's sacrifice and struggle to reveal the identity of the Frontman and the VIPs had to stop. Gi Hun's life was lost before exposing the Squid Game elites even though he already knew the identity of the Frontman, namely Hwang In Ho, played by Lee Byung Hun.

Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk revealed the reason behind Gi Hun's death in the latest season. Meanwhile, according to Jung Jae, Gi Hun's reason for sacrificing his life makes sense because he remembers his daughter.

"It's almost like Gi Hun is looking at his own daughter," said Lee Jung Jae. "I ultimately believed that no matter how hopeless and dark the world is, maybe we still have a chance if we can find a glimmer of hope within ourselves," Dong Hyuk explained.

"Instead of looking for things from or in others, I hope we can reflect on our own values and whether we have faith in ourselves so that we can build goodness within ourselves.

That's the lesson I hope viewers can take away after watching Season 3," he continued. Meanwhile, Squid Game 3 has aired on June 27, 2025. This series has a total of six episodes and is the final season of the Squid Game story series.
