Following its huge success, the animated film 'KPop Demon Hunters' is confirmed to be getting a sequel. Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix have confirmed the continuation of the story following its explosive success on streaming platforms.

Since its premiere in June 2025, 'KPop Demon Hunters' immediately set a record as the most-watched English-language animated film on Netflix, overtaking 'Red Notice' with over 236 million views.

Not only on digital platforms, but the film was also a success on the big screen. When it premiered in single-along format in August 2025, the film debuted at number one at the box office, grossing US$19.2 million.

One of the driving factors behind its popularity is its phenomenal, record-breaking soundtrack. Four songs from the film simultaneously reached the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10, led by Huntr/x's single "Golden."

This global appeal has led many fans to rewatch the film time and time again. The project emerged from a 2021 agreement between Sony and Netflix. Netflix covered the US$100 million production costs plus US$25 million for exclusive streaming rights.

Sony retained a portion of the profits from soundtrack sales and publishing. This high-risk bet has paid off handsomely. Analysts estimate Sony's profit margin could reach 30 percent, while Netflix has secured one of the most successful animated properties in its platform's history.

As reported by Kbizoom, directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who also wrote the first film, are reportedly returning for the sequel. Both expressed their excitement to continue the story of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey.

KPop Demon Hunters tells the story of three K-pop superstars named Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, whose lives are filled with the glitz and glamour of the music scene, but whose secret mission is to hunt demons.

The film blends the glitz and glamour of K-pop with suspenseful fantasy action, presenting a story of friendship, courage, and the struggle against darkness.
