Actress Kim Ji Mee passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. This news was confirmed by several sources in the entertainment industry. According to JoongAng Daily, Kim Ji Mee died after experiencing declining health. She died in the United States.
Born Kim Myeong Ja in 1940, Kim Ji Mee made her big screen debut in director Kim Ki Young's 1957 film Twilight Train. Kim Ji Mee also starred in several titles such as The Land, Gilsottum and received awards at the Grand Bell Awards and the Panama International Film Festival.
Since 1990, Kim Ji Mee has starred in more than 700 films with awards such as Baeksang, Blue Dragon, Buil, and Grand Bell. She was nicknamed the Korean Elizabeth Taylor because of her similarities to the figure's life and film career.
She was married four times during her lifetime. Kim Ji Mee married director Hong Sung Gi but divorced in 1962, actor Choi Moo Ryong but divorced in 1969. In 1976, she dated singer Na Hoon A until 1982 before deciding to separate.
Her last marriage was to doctor Lee Jong Gu in 1991 before divorcing 11 years later. Besides acting, Kim Ji Mee has also ventured behind the scenes. She is a producer for Jimi Film, which has produced seven films.
She is also a colleague in the Korean Film Council and is active as a figure who actively supports the South Korean film industry. It is not yet known whether Kim Ji Mee will be buried in South Korea or not, but the film industry is planning a funeral and tribute for the actress. Kim Ji Mee passed away at the age of 85.
