EJAE, a singer who is popular as a soundtrack for the K-Pop film Demon Hunters, made history at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. She also drew attention because his acceptance speech highlighted his failure as a K-Pop idol.
At the 2026 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday January 11, 2026 local time, EJAE managed to take home two prestigious trophies thanks to the Golden song, "Best Original Song" and "Best Animated Motion Picture."
The owner of the real name Kim Eun Jae went up on stage to represent her colleagues, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, who are also members of the fictional KPop group HUNTR/X in the KPop film Demon Hunters.
Golden is officially recorded as the first KPop song to win the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. Not only singing, EJAE was involved in writing the song with Mark Sonnenblick. While delivering her speech on stage, EJAE's eyes filled with tears, unable to hold back her tears.
She recalled her childhood as a trainee at SM Entertainment, one of South Korea's largest entertainment agencies. SM Entertainment has produced a number of legendary K-pop groups, including Girls' Generation, Super Junior, EXO, NCT, aespa, and Red Velvet.
However, EJAE's career was halted after 10 years of training because her vocals were deemed insufficient. After leaving SM Entertainment, EJAE focused on songwriting and music production. She also continued his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, United States.
She even collaborated with the agency on songwriting for aespa (Better Things, Drama) and NCT Dream (Broken Melodies). According to EJAE, the rejection he experienced wasn't a failure, but rather an opportunity to rebuild her life. Now, EJAE has successfully proven that he can shine in his own way.
"When I was little, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fulfill one dream: to become a K-pop idol. I was rejected and disappointed because my voice wasn't good enough, so I relied on songs and music to get through that difficult time. Now I'm here as a singer and songwriter," EJAE recalled.
"It's a dream come true to be part of a song that helps other women, other men, and people of all ages overcome their struggles and accept themselves. So thank you, Golden Globes, for accepting my voice and our voices." EJAE added, "I give this award to those whose doors have been 'closed'.
I can confidently say that rejection is a diversion. Never give up, it's never too late to shine as we were destined to." Many netizens expressed their joy at EJAE's achievement, becoming widely known and recognized for her singing and songwriting skills.
"Golden" became one of the biggest hits of 2025, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight weeks. This soundtrack for the K-pop film "Demon Hunters" beat the record held by TLC's 1995 hit "Waterfalls."
