Shinsegae Group has officially confirmed the theft of gift vouchers by one of its employees. The vouchers were previously purchased by NCT's Jaemin as a special gift for fans. The event began on White Day, March 14, 2026 KST, when Jaemin delivered a sweet surprise through the Bubble platform.
The SM Entertainment idol distributed 30 Shinsegae vouchers worth 100,000 won each, redeemable exclusively at Emart stores. The total prizes Jaemin had prepared reached 3 million won. Suspicions arose when fans who had been lining up since the morning of March 15, 2026 discovered that the vouchers had expired or been used.
According to reports on social media, most of the vouchers had been redeemed at the Emart Gumi location before the store's opening hours at 10:00 a.m. This sparked speculation among netizens that an “insider” was abusing their authority to claim the voucher codes before the public had a chance to redeem them.
After conducting an internal investigation, Shinsegae Group finally provided an update on March 17, 2026. "So far, we have confirmed that an employee at the Gumi store has unilaterally cashed in nine of the 100,000 won vouchers," a company representative said.
Shinsegae also apologized to customers for the inconvenience. They emphasized that they would take firm disciplinary action in accordance with company standards and tighten protocols for issuing and redeeming vouchers to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
In response to the unfortunate news his fans experienced on March 15, 2026, Jaemin showed his generous side by sending an additional 10 new vouchers worth 100,000 won each. To date, authorities and store management are still investigating the technical details of how the individual was able to access the voucher code before store opening hours.
