The popularity of the JTBC Korean drama Reborn Rookie is reaching its peak in South Korea. The latest episode alone has already reached a 9.5% viewership rating, according to Nielsen.

In the midst of this currently popular Korean drama, its lead actor, Lee Jun Young, made a surprising announcement: he was leaving to begin his mandatory military service starting next month.

The South Korean actor, born on January 22, 1997, announced this last weekend, on the day episode 6 of Reborn Rookie aired. He uploaded a handwritten letter to Instagram announcing his enlistment.

"This is my 10th draft!" wrote Lee Jun Young at the beginning of his letter. He explained his decision to inform fans first via a social media post, so that news of his military enlistment would reach them directly, rather than them learning from the media.

The actor from Melo Movie (2025) then went on to reveal his military enlistment date, followed by his feelings after receiving the summons to carry out his national service. "Yes, I'm starting my military service on July 21, 2026.

Before I knew this date, I thought, 'Oh, this is nothing special.' But when I found out, for the first time in a long time, my mind was really busy. I was worried about how to convey this news to my fans. Now that I'm writing this letter, my heart feels lighter.

I will return healthy and still be myself!" Lee Jun Young continued. He closed his letter with farewells, wishes, and Christmas and New Year greetings. In the post, Lee Jun Young also showed crumpled-up drafts of the letter from a notebook.
