Squid Game (2021) actor Lee Jung Jae is in mourning. His father recently passed away. This news was conveyed by Artist Company management in an official statement on October 6, 2026.
On October 6, 2026, reported by OSEN via Chosun Biz, the artist's agency explained that Lee Jung Jae asked for privacy to grieve without the spotlight of cameras.
"In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, who was always quiet and modest, the funeral of actor Lee Jung Jae's father was held privately and attended only by family," said the actor's agency.
"We ask for the public's understanding as we cannot provide further details regarding this matter as it is a private family matter," they continued.
Local South Korean media reported that Lee Jung Jae is continuing his activities amidst this sad news. After the funeral, he will resume work according to the schedule previously arranged by his agency.
The 53-year-old actor is currently preparing for his next acting project. After completing the final season of Squid Game in 2025, he will appear in the rom-com "Nice to Not Meet You" alongside Lim Ji Yeon.
Nice to Not Meet You feels like a refreshing project for Lee Jung Jae, especially after a few years of being known as Seong Gi Hun in Squid Game, whose life was truly full of challenges.
