Xiaomi has launched its Redmi K50 Gaming Edition and K50 AMG F1 Champion Edition devices in China. The line-up starts at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 39,000). Both smartphones are almost identical except for the AMG F1 Champion Edition sporting a different design. It comes in a single 12GB/256GB model and has green accents, carbon fiber texture, and a checkered flag pattern on the rear.
The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, as the name suggests, is aimed at mobile gaming enthusiasts. The Chinese tech company has also partnered with the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team to attract F1 fans with the K50 AMG F1 Champion Edition model. The demand for flagship gaming handsets is on a steady rise and Redmi's latest offerings will look to cement the brand in the niche segment.
The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition and K50 AMG F1 Champion Edition bear a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ (1080x2400 pixels) AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 480Hz touch sampling rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The smartphones sport a punch-hole design with rounded corners, slim bezels, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. They also have quad JBL speakers and magnetic pop-up shoulder buttons for gaming.
Under the hood, Redmi K50 Gaming and Champion Editions are powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. At the heart, the smartphones boot Android 12-based MIUI 13 OS out of the box. For connectivity options, they offer support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G, NFC, and a Type-C port.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the Redmi K50 Gaming and Champion Editions have a triple rear camera module comprising a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide lens with 120-degree field-of-view, and a 2MP macro snapper. For selfies and video calls, the smartphones boast a 20MP Sony IMX596 shooter. The smartphones is house a 4,700mAh battery with 120W fast-charging support.
As for pricing and availability in China, the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition starts at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 39,000) for the 8GB/128GB model and goes up to CNY 3,899 (roughly Rs. 46,000) for 12GB/256GB variant. The special K50 AMG F1 Champion Edition is priced at CNY 4,199 (roughly Rs. 49,700) for the solo 12GB/256GB configuration. The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition will go on sale from February 18.
