Less than a month away, BTS' free concert held in order to help Busan to host the 2030 World Expo will be held. However, there are still many things that cause public concern. One of the concerns that has arisen among the public is about who will bear the entire cost of organizing the event of 7 billion won (Rp. 74 billion), because the city of Busan and the government have stated that they will not pay for this free concert.
In addition, the concert venue at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium is also a new concern. Initially, this location was intended as a replacement for the Busan Ilkwang Special Stage, which had problems in terms of security and logistics. However, this new location, which was expected to be a better alternative, turned out to be not much different from the previous location.
The reason, the roofs of this stadium also suffered damage that cannot be ignored. According to allkpop, there are dozens of roof panels damaged by a typhoon at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium that have not been repaired due to high costs and the panel production had to be done in Germany. Therefore, new repairs can be made in June next year.
The Busan Asiad Main Stadium itself was built at a total cost of 220 billion won (Rp 2.3 trillion) to host the 2002 Asian Games and the 2002 FIFA World Cup. However, the building has been torn apart frequently by typhoons and strong winds. The stadium has a semi-dome structure and is surrounded by 96 roof curtains.
So far, 29 roofs have been damaged, including eight during Typhoon Maemi in 2003 and six during Typhoon Megi in 2004. Meanwhile, two years ago there were nine more roof panels that were damaged, and the repair cost was 330 million won (Rp 3.5 billion) per sheet, for a total cost of 3.5 billion won (Rp 37.3 trillion) overall. As repairs are still planned for next year, the concert, which will be broadcast live worldwide,
has the South Korean public worried that audiences around the world will have to see the dilapidated and unsightly condition of the stadium. As an alternative, there are proposals to hide various damages, such as covering the damaged roof with large banners related to BTS and Expo. However, the security issue regarding the alternative is still in the process of being discussed.
