The agency that houses EXO's Kai, SM Entertainment officially announced EXO's Kai military enlistment date. Quoting from Naver on Wednesday May 3, 2023, SM Entertainment confirmed that EXO's Kai will carry out his mandatory military duties starting May 11, 2023, as a social worker.
Through the Kwangya Club page, SM Entertainment said, "Hello, we are SM Entertainment. We would like to deliver unexpected news regarding EXO's Kai military enlistment schedule." They continued, "Kai is currently preparing for group EXO's comeback which is planned to take place this year.
However, due to changes in regulations from the Military Manpower Administration, he will take part in military training scheduled for May 11, 2023, before starting his duty as a social worker. "SM Entertainment also said that to respect EXO's Kai decision to carry out his mandatory military service quietly, the location of the military training ground and departure time will not be announced.
