Three EXO personnel Xiumin, Baekhyun, and Chen decided to end their contract with SM Entertainment. The personnel who are members of the EXO-CBX sub-unit feel that they have been enslaved by the famous South Korean entertainment agency.

If the exclusive contract for K-Pop artists usually counts for 7 years, EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen were asked to sign a 17-year contract by SM Entertainment. According to SM Entertainment, EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen have received incitement from a third party to issue a lawsuit.

What is the continuation of the conflict between EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen who are at odds with the agency?  Here are 5 facts about EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen EXO suing SM Entertainment:

1. Demand Wages and 17 Year Contracts

EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin, Chen lawyers spoke up on Thursday June 1, 2023 and explained the three personnel's problems. "As if a 12-13 year contract wasn't bad enough, the agency is trying to make its artist a 17-18 year contract. This is an abuse of SM Entertainment's power," Lee Jae Hak said as quoted by Koreaboo.

In addition to the 'slave contract' that cornered Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen EXO, SM Entertainment reportedly has not provided wages since March. For this reason, EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen asked for a clear wage calculation from the agency that raised their name.

2. Apologies to Fans

The conflict between SM Entertainment and EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen surprised many fans. The three EXO personnel also apologized for making fans worry about the conflict that ended in court. "We apologize for causing concern. We will do our best to resolve this dispute wisely."

3. Big Planet Made Accused of Being the Mastermind

Following EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen decision to leave the agency, SM Entertainment accused Big Planet Made of being the mastermind behind it. SM Entertainment said the entertainment agency had instigated the artist to move and signed an exclusive contract.

In particular, SM Entertainment demanded MC Mong, who was said to serve as Director of Big Planet Made. EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen are also said to have abandoned their contracts because of MC Mong's actions.

However, Big Planet Made denied SM Entertainment's accusations and emphasized that it had no intention of recruiting them. MC Mong is also not part Director of Big Planet Made. He only met the three EXO personnel to strengthen relations as senior-junior.

4. SM Entertainment Repeats Case of TVXQ Personnel

A number of Korean netizens criticized SM Entertainment after learning of the 'slave contract' made for EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen. Because a similar case occurred in 2009 when three TVXQ personnel Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu sued SM Entertainment.

The personnel who are members of the JYJ sub-unit are forced to sign a 13-year contract with unequal wages. "SM again?" "Nothing has changed since then... This is surprising," "I'm a fan of KPop idols from other agencies, but I'm worried about agencies like this," commented a number of Korean netizens on online forums.

5. Reportedly Canceled EXO Video Clip Filming

Following EXO's Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen conflict with SM Entertainment, other rumors arose. Sports Seoul reports that SM Entertainment has postponed the filming of the group EXO's music video, which will make a comeback this year.

However, this news was denied by SM Entertainment, which confirmed that seven EXO personnel would be involved in shooting the video clip. "EXO will shoot with the formation of seven personnel as previously planned," said SM Entertainment, as reported by Koreaboo. That way all EXO personnel will participate in filming except for Kai who is currently undergoing military service.
