In recent years, there have been rumors that Zico 's agency, KOZ Entertainment, is preparing to debut a new boy group created and produced by Zico himself. In November 2022, Zico also confirmed these rumors. As a leak, at that time Zico, who was very confident in the boy group he formed, said, "The concept of this group is ambiguous to say.

(But) they will become a group that will present music that can be enjoyed by the general public and fans." Following Zico's statement, on February 28, 2023, Soompi reported that Zico's new boy group will be debuting in May. In response to the news, a representative from Zico's agency, KOZ Entertainment, spoke up.

In particular, the representative confirmed that the agency is preparing to debut a group, but they have not been able to set an exact date. He said, "We are preparing (for the boy group debut) in the first half of this year. The exact debut date will be announced once it is confirmed."

After the news that Zico's new boy group would be debuting soon, curious netizens started looking for any other information they could get from the group. Thanks to their search, some netizens also found a clue that points to the identity of the group formed by Zico.

On the same day as the news release, some of them found the name "BOYNEXTDOOR" registered for trademark/copyright under KOZ Entertainment label. In addition, the accounts created for the group can also be found on social media Twitter and Instagram.

Zico himself debuted as a member of Block B in 2014 and is active as the team's main producer. After parting ways with Block B's agency Seven Seasons, Zico worked as a solo artist and producer. After pursuing a solo career, he has released many hit songs and even popularized the dance challenge through the song "Any Song" in 2021.

Although the competition for boy groups in 2023 is expected to be even fiercer than before, according to allkpop the public has high expectations for the newest boy group formed by Zico and KOZ Entertainment because they are part of one of the biggest agencies in South Korea, HYBE Labels.

HYBE Labels itself has succeeded in dominating the fourth generation boy group market with the debut of TXT through BIGHIT MUSIC and ENHYPEN through BELIFT Lab. Not only that, they have also succeeded in establishing a multi-label system for fourth-generation girl groups, including LE SSERAFIM and NewJeans.
