Korean netizens criticized EXO's D.O (Do Kyung-Soo) after a viral video of him smoking indoors circulated on the internet. The video does not show D.O directly smoking a cigarette, but exhaling thick smoke from his nose and mouth.
D.O was caught on camera by an EXO content in the green room or TV music show waiting room while promoting the song Cream Soda from the EXIST album. It can be seen that he is getting ready and doing the fitting before appearing to record at the music event. Around him, there were a lot of staff including EXO members too.
It is clear in the video clip, D.O exhales smoke from his nose and mouth. It is suspected that DO smoked e-cigarettes in the room. Criticism flowed because of D.O's behavior.They didn't mind about DO smoking, considering his mature age, but regretted the action of The Moon actor.
Smoking in a closed room like that can certainly make other people in the room uncomfortable. "30 year old men can smoke, no problem. But smoking indoors is dangerous for other people!" wrote one netizen. There are also netizens who say that K-Pop idols including DO have no other choice as a place to smoke.
If they choose to leave the television station building and smoke there, they will easily be caught by paparazzi and sasaeng cameras. This was considered to be more damaging to their image as K-Pop idols. Other netizens then suggested to the television station to prepare a special smoking room for K-Pop idols.
So they can have their own place and not expose non-smokers to their cigarette smoke. SM Entertainment as the management of D.O and EXO has not commented on this matter. Currently EXO's D.O is in the promotion period for his latest film The Moon. This film will be shown in Indonesia starting August 9, 2023.
