ADOR has released a statement denying allegations that NewJeans' latest song, Bubble Gum, is a ripoff of British band Shakatak's Easier Said Than Done. ADOR as the agency uploaded the explanation on Instagram on Tuesday July 23, 2024, emphasizing that they had ensured that the songwriter did not commit plagiarism.

ADOR also released one piece of evidence in the form of differences in chord progressions between the two songs. "The songs Bubble Gum and Easier Than Done start with different chord progressions (D Major9 x2-C# Minor7- F# minor7), with different bpms and grooves and overall moods," ADOR wrote.

"The claim of plagiarism differs from the facts because it concerns something as simple as a similar-sounding melody. It is also difficult to argue because the melody is popular in pop music and was used even before Easier Said Than Done was released," ADOR continued.

Continuing the statement, ADOR asked the accusers to provide a more detailed report regarding the alleged plagiarism. They also hope that the report can be released after the allegations have emerged. ADOR even responded to the media spotlight on the NewJeans song accusation. Several major media outlets are claimed to have reported ADOR's wishes with negative intonation.

The agency then issued a statement that cornered HYBE as the company that oversees ADOR because HYBE was said to have discussed the plagiarism allegations with another department, instead of directly with ADOR as NewJeans' agency. "We also doubt HYBE's efforts to address the allegations as they are responsible for ADOR's public relations, including communication with the press," ADOR said.

"They should have discussed it with ADOR first after receiving the complaint from Shakatak, but instead they shared the report with other departments which led to more people being involved," he continued.

The band Shakatak claims that the song Bubble Gum carries a distinctive rhythm and melody, a unique melodic hook, with similar electric guitar and bass, while stating that the rhythm is basically the same when the two songs are compared. The claim came after Shakatak's copyright manager accused NewJeans of plagiarizing the song Easier Said Than Done.
