Taylor Swift briefly discussed the tragedy of September 11, 2001 or the tragedy (9/11) when she gave her acceptance speech when receiving the Moonperson trophy from the MTV VMA after winning the Best Collaboration category for the song Fortnight with Post Malone.
The win was the first to be announced on stage at the 2024 MTV VMAs, which were held on Wednesday September 11, 2024 from the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, or on Thursday September 12, 2024 morning Indonesian time. "Waking up in New York on September 11th, I remember what happened 23 years ago," Taylor Swift said in her acceptance speech.
After expressing her sympathy for the victims and their families of the tragedy, Taylor Swift did not forget to praise Post Malone, who collaborated on the song Fortnight. The trophy win was Fortnight's second after winning the Song of Summer category before the on-air session.
Post Malone also returned Taylor Swift's compliment by praising the musician again. Post Malone was at a loss for words when he wanted to start his speech, but he then praised Taylor Swift for her various "cool" talents and the musician's very good character.
The peak night of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards was previously opened with a performance by Eminem wearing a blonde wig and followed by dozens of people with similar appearances who entered the stage and performed Houdini.
Houdini is the first single from the musician's latest album titled The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) which was released in July 2024. After finishing performing Houdini, Eminem performed another song from the same album, Somebody Save Me, complete with a section of the song from Jelly Roll.
Eminem's performance ended and was followed by Meghan Thee Stallion's 2024 VMA stage performance which also opened the show and celebrated the 40th anniversary of the event. Meanwhile, at the 2024 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift again dominated with 10 nominations thanks to Fornight, her latest collaboration song with Post Malone which is included in the album The Tortured Poets Department.
