ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin reportedly sabotaged Source Music before debuting girl group NewJeans. Dispatch on Tuesday July 23, 2024 reported Min Hee-jin's efforts to weaken Source Music when he was still the creator leader by taking Team N trainees to debut his own girl group.
Min Hee-jin pressured Source Music to debut LE SSERAFIM before NewJeans. LE SSERAFIM successfully debuted on May 2, 2022, while NewJeans debuted on July 22, 2022. Korean media JoongAng Daily also mentioned that the ADOR CEO consulted a shaman for the entire plan.
Quoted from Dispatch news, Min Hee-jin first joined the Team N project in 2019 as a brand creator. Team N is planned to debut in the third quarter of 2021. Min Hee-jin is appointed as brand creator, while Source Music CEO So Sung-jin is in charge of management and performances, and HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk will oversee music.
However, Bang Si-hyuk decided to step down as Team N's music director, saying that Min Hee-jin would be in charge of its music and performances. Dispatch quoted KakaoTalk messages between Min Hee-jin and her shaman that took place in June 2021.
Min Hee-jin was revealed to have intentionally hindered the process because she wanted to take members from Team N to debut on her own label, instead of under Source Music. The statement is completely contrary to the information conveyed by Min Hee-jin during two press conferences held in April 2024 due to allegations of breach of trust against HYBE as the majority owner of ADOR.
Min Hee-jin said that she was forced to establish ADOR and take on several Source Music trainees because HYBE kept delaying the debut of NewJeans members on the pretext of wanting to debut trainees Sakura and Chae-won first, who are now part of the group LE SSERAFIM. Min Hee-jin also stated that HYBE had repeatedly neglected her and the NewJeans members both before and after the girl group made its debut in July 2022.
Meanwhile, the CEO of ADOR immediately denied the allegations and was ready to take legal action in a press release on Tuesday July 23, 2024 evening. Min Hee-jin has also been reported for defamation charges filed by Belift Lab, the agency of girl group ILLIT, after she claimed that the group “plagiarized” NewJeans.
