BLACKPINK Jennie's agency, OA Entertainment, has finally issued an apology after the idol was caught on camera smoking an e-cigarette or vape indoors. A video clip of Jennie vaping indoors has sparked controversy on social media and online communities.
The incident was captured in a vlog uploaded on Jennie's official YouTube channel on Tuesday July 2, 2024. At that time, Jennie was seen being made up by some staff, then smoke was seen billowing from her mouth.
She was also seen carrying a device that looked like an e-cigarette. Although the vlog has now been deleted, the controversial clip is still circulating widely on social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), and has drawn various reactions.
Netizens criticized Jennie not because of her vaping activity, but because she smoked in a room full of staff, and the smoke was even seen hitting the face of the staff who was doing her makeup. On Tuesday July 9, 2024, the agency finally spoke up and released a statement apologizing for this.
"We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie's actions in the content released on July 2, 2024," OA Entertainment said as quoted by Soompi. They added, "Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to staff. Jennie has personally apologized to all staff on site who may have been affected.
" Not to forget, the agency also apologized to fans who were disappointed by the incident and tried to prevent it from happening again. Meanwhile, in South Korea, smoking indoors is a serious violation, whether using conventional or e-cigarettes. It has been regulated by law.
Although there were netizens who defended Jennie because at that time Jennie was not in Korea, but in Capri, Italy, local residents explained that in Capri there is also a ban on smoking in closed spaces. Now, netizens hope that idols will be wiser in doing things, especially because they are public figures.
