Blackpink's Jennie has been nominated for a U.S. Emmy Award for her role in her first U.S. debut film, 'The Idol.' This film has sparked controversy over its sensationalism, and attention is focused on whether it will secure a win.

The American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) announced the 76th Emmy Award nominations on the 17th. Among the nominations, the HBO series 'The Idol' was recognized in the 'Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming' category.

The nominated scene features Jennie and Lily-Rose Depp dancing to the song 'World Class Sinner.' In the series, Jennie portrayed Dyanne, a backup dancer and friend of Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp), drawing attention with a high-level choreography performance. The performance was noted for its explicit sexual undertones.

Nina McNeely was the choreographer for this scene. Jennie mentioned that she did not spend much time learning the choreography used for filming after the first episode was released but was grateful for her prior dance experience, which helped her perform effectively.

'The Idol' is a drama that explores the love and passion of a popular pop star in the entertainment industry. It was directed by Sam Levinson and co-produced by A24-HBO Entertainment, Sam Levinson, and singer The Weeknd.

Jennie's Hollywood debut in the series garnered significant attention from fans both domestically and internationally. However, the series faced criticism for its emphasis on male fantasy and perceived sexist themes, leading some to label it as exploitative.

Critics and fans alike expressed outrage, with some considering it one of the worst shows of the year. As a result, plans for a second season were canceled. The 76th Emmy Awards will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles at 5 p.m. on September 15, 2024 (local time).
