The production company of the Korean drama 'River Where the Moon Rises' has won part of the lawsuit against the former agency of actor Ji Soo, who had to leave the drama midway due to the school violence controversy.

On July 25, 2024, the Seoul Central District Court's 31st Civil Contract Division partially ruled in favor of the damages lawsuit filed by Victory Contents against KeyEast. They stated, "KeyEast must pay Victory Contents approximately 1.421,470 billion won (approximately $1 million USD) and late payment interest." The specific reason was not explained.

Previously, in 2021, when 'River Where the Moon Rises' aired until episode 6, allegations of 'school violence' arose against Ji Soo who played the male lead Ondal. At that time, Ji Soo had finished filming episode 18 of the 20 episodes of the series.

However, Ji Soo partially admitted to the allegations, saying, "I sincerely apologize to those who have suffered because of me. There is no excuse for my past mistakes," and eventually, the production team of 'River Where the Moon Rises' decided to ask Ji Soo to leave the drama.

In response, production company Victory Contents filed a lawsuit for approximately 3 billion won (approximately US$2.5 million) against KeyEast, which was Jisoo's agency at the time, demanding compensation for "staff costs due to re-filming, location and equipment usage fees, appearance fees, etc."

Later, the court proposed a mandatory mediation plan, ordering the production company to pay 1.15 billion won, lower than the 3 billion won requested by the production company, and dismissed the lawsuit, but both parties filed objections, and the case eventually went to court.
