Deadpool & Wolverine officially made a new global box office milestone by earning $1 billion this weekend. Since its official screening on July 24, 2024, the latest film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has grossed US$535.2 million globally, then US$494.3 million domestically in North America, bringing the total to 1.029 billion dollars.
As reported by Deadline on Sunday August 11, 2024, thanks to this achievement, the third Deadpool film also ranks second as the highest-grossing R-rated film in history. The film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is predicted to overtake the position of the Joker film which grossed US$1.079 billion when it was released in 2019.
The Deadpool 3 film is also the second Disney film to earn the biggest profit throughout 2024 following the success of Inside Out 2. The Disney/Pixar film was recorded to have earned US$1.593 billion or Rp25.4 trillion when it was shown since July 7, 2024.
With the achievements of Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2, Disney has become the only studio to earn $1 million through back-to-back film releases in one year. Deadpool & Wolverine became the 31st Disney film and the 11th Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film to successfully pocket US$1 billion at the global box office.
This film also became a brilliant comeback for Marvel Studios after having faded through the release of previous films, such as Eternals (2021), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), and The Marvels (2023). Deadpool & Wolverine is directed by Shawn Levy.
The script for the film was written by Ryan Reynolds along with Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. They previously also wrote for Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). The Deadpool 3 film stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the main characters. A number of other stars also enliven the film, such as Emma Corrin, to Matthew Macfadyen.
Deadpool & Wolverine is produced by director Shawn Levy with a script by Ryan Reynolds along with Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Several cameos also became surprises in the Deadpool 3 film, including Henry Cavill, Jon Favreau, Dafne Keen, Chris Evans, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, and Channing Tatum.
