SM Entertainment claims to have only received a report of alleged sexual crimes against former NCT member Taeil since mid-August 2024. However, the agency only announced the case to the public on Wednesday August 28, 2024.
The statement comes after the agency received much criticism because Taeil was still involved with NCT 127's events in early August 2024, while the police report said the alleged sexual assault had occurred in June 2024.
"Both the agency and Taeil first became aware of the lawsuit in mid-August, and Taeil was investigated by the police on August 28, 2024," an SM representative told Newsen on Thursday August 29, 2024. SM Entertainment said Taeil is undergoing police questioning cooperatively. It also promised to provide further explanation to the public regarding the development of the case. "We have discussed this matter with Taeil and it has been determined that he will be removed from the group," said SM Entertainment.
The musician whose full name is Moon Tae-il made his debut with NCT U in 2016. He then moved units to NCT 127 in July 2016. Taeil has built a career in the music industry with 8 other members by releasing six studio albums, seven mini albums, and dozens of singles.
