SM Entertainment has made another breakthrough. After previously announcing the launch of the British boy group DEAR ALICE, this time the famous agency will collaborate with TV Chosun to launch the ' Trot Idol ' project.

Quoting from Soompi on Tuesday August 13, 2024, representatives of SM Entertainment and TV Chosun held a signing ceremony for their production, 'T-5', while also discussing the collaboration in detail. SM Entertainment's new trot idol group will consist of five members, including a singer from 'Mr. Trot', a global K-pop trainee, and an actor.

Famous composer Cho Yeong Su, known for his work on the 'Miss Trot' and 'Mr. Trot' series, will be producing the group, raising high expectations for its success. TV Chosun will air a program that follows the members' journey to debut, showcasing their challenges and musical growth.

The show will air in both Korea and Japan. A preview of the show will air on TV Chosun during the Chuseok holiday, promising to appeal to music fans. “TV Chosun, which sparked the trot trend in Korea and showcased the genre’s potential, is working with SM, a global leader in music, to create something new,” said Bang Jeong Oh, Vice President of TV Chosun.

He added, "This collaboration is expected to introduce a genre that can reach beyond Korea and have an impact worldwide.” KREATION Music Rights CEO Lee Sung Su added, “SM Entertainment, known for pushing the boundaries of music, is expanding its reach once again.

I am thrilled to be collaborating with TV Chosun, a respected name in trot.” Lee Sung Su further said that his party aims to offer fresh and innovative music by combining the K-pop and trot genres. "The stories of these five unique members will definitely touch the heart.

I hope everyone will support and look forward to it," added Lee Sung Su. Meanwhile, trot is a genre of South Korean pop music that was popular during the Japanese colonial period in Korea. The lyrics of the songs generally contain stories of sadness, suffering, love, and natural scenery.
