Jaehyun officially becomes the next NCT member to announce that he will be enlisting in the military in the near future. SM Entertainment as the agency has confirmed the news by saying that the musician will enlist in the military on November 4, 2024.
The schedule was announced to the public after the musician and actor, whose full name is Jung Jae-hyun, received an acceptance letter from the Military Manpower Administration on Thursday September 26, 2024.
"NCT's Jaehyun applied to the military band and received a notification of acceptance from the Military Manpower Administration today," SM Entertainment said in a statement on Weverse. "Therefore, he is scheduled to enlist as an active duty soldier on November 4 to fulfill his mandatory duties."
SM Entertainment did not reveal Jaehyun's basic military training location or deployment post during his service. The agency also confirmed that there will be no events when Jaehyun begins his military service. "On the day of entry to the recruit training center, there will be no official events to avoid safety accidents due to the crowd caused by the presence of many soldiers and their families," the agency added.
"We ask for your unwavering support and love until the day Jaehyun completes his military service and returns in good health." Jaehyun began his military service at the age of 27. He is the second NCT member to do so, following Taeyong who had already joined in April 2024.
The musician with the full name Lee Tae-yong became the first NCT member to join the military. He was assigned as an active soldier in the Navy. Taeyong joined the military at the age of 28 when he entered the military on April 15, 2024. The agency also uploaded Taeyong's latest photo on May 17, 2024, indicating that the musician born on July 1, 1995, had just completed basic military training.
Military service has become mandatory for healthy South Korean men aged 18-28, as the country has yet to reach a peace agreement with North Korea following the 1950-1953 Korean War. However, the military service period varies depending on the unit you are assigned to, but most last 18-21 months.
