Na In Woo talked about his new drama with Lee Se Young , " Motel California " in an interview session with a famous magazine on Tuesday December 24, 2024. In the drama, In Woo plays the character Cheon Yeon Soo, a man who harbors a lifelong love for Ji Kang Hee (Se Yeon).
This is the first time In Woo has reappeared in public after his military exemption status sparked controversy. In the interview, In Woo discussed his approach to his role in the new drama. The 30-year-old actor shared his thoughts on his character Yeon Soo who is quite fond of keeping his feelings for only one woman for years.
"He's a completely harmless character. I don't think it's a fantasy for someone to love only one person their whole life. Even though waiting for just one person is hard, people do achieve it. I focused on expressing detailed emotions to make it realistic.
I imagined how someone who endures such a long wait would age," said In Woo. Talking about his personality, In Woo also openly admitted that he is a stubborn person. He said, "I never give up on anything. I'm not good at letting go.
Although it can be seen as stubbornness in a negative light, I think not giving up can be an important factor in times like this. I try to take it in a positive way." On the other hand, Se Young also revealed In Woo's personality on the set. According to Se Young, In Woo is very suitable to play the character of Yeon Soo.
She said, "Kang Hee found Yeon Soo's good nature, kind eyes, and confidence irresistible. Na In Woo is calm, quiet, and cheerful, making him the center of attention on the set. Thanks to him, filming was very enjoyable." Meanwhile, In Woo has officially been declared exempt from military service after a long wait of around 3 years.
For the past few days, he has been waiting to receive a summons from the military. The actor has been classified as a fourth-class reserve soldier during his military physical examination. In Woo is only allowed to serve as a social worker because he had an injury.
However, after not receiving a call from the Military Manpower Administration for about three years, the actor born in 1994 qualified for an exemption/no military service. According to the Military Service Act, those classified as fourth-class reserve soldiers are exempt from military service if they are not called up within three years.
Since 2019, more than 10,000 people, including In Woo, have received this exemption. Unfortunately, the decision stating that In Woo was exempted from military duty did not always receive support from the public.
The actor had received sharp criticism because he was considered unwise. A number of netizens argued that In Woo should have been able to apply for military service before the maximum age limit. However, In Woo preferred to wait rather than act first.
