BLACKPINK's Jisoo and Park Jung Min attended the "Newtopia" press conference on January 7, 2025. The two actors discussed their experience starring in the drama Coupang Play while highlighting their chemistry while on set.
"Newtopia" is a drama that tells the story of soldier Jae Yoon (Jung Min) and his persistent girlfriend, Young Joo (Jisoo) who are in separate places when a zombie outbreak occurs. They will race across zombie-infested Seoul to meet each other.
On that occasion, Jisoo initially described Young Joo's character by saying, "Young Joo is a new graduate who is waiting for her boyfriend Jae Yoon, who enlisted at a later age. Struggling to survive on her first step into society, their relationship becomes strained.
When disaster strikes, she realizes her love for Jae Yoon and becomes an extraordinary woman who bravely runs towards him." Jisoo also revealed the reason she agreed to star in "Newtopia". "I watch a lot of zombie shows.
When I read the script, I realized that this drama is not only about zombies, but also has many colorful events, creating a zombie drama that is unlike anything I've seen before. And with director Yoon Sung Hyun and actor Park Jung Min, the decision was easy," said Jisoo.
Jisoo then told about Jung Min's behavior that surprised her on the set of "Newtopia". At that time, Jung Min was not supposed to have a filming schedule, but the man came to support her. "I was really surprised.
During my phone scene with Jung Min, I heard his voice near me. He came alone on his day off, it was really a surprise," said Jisoo. Jisoo also responded to the expectations placed on her by the public considering the solo success of BLACKPINK members.
"When my members do well, people congratulate me like it's my own achievement. It makes me realize that we're like a family, which motivates me during filming. I hope my members will also hear good things about 'Newtopia'," said Jisoo.
On the other hand, Jung Min said that he is a fan of BLACKPINK. The man admitted to keeping their photos together and signed CDs as treasures. "I have a special cabinet at home for valuables," he said.
"Right on the front, I have two signed CDs, one that I got through Kim Go Eun that says 'Thank you for your support, Park Jung Min,' and the other one says 'Looking forward to working with you, Jung Min,'" he said.
"Seeing it reminded me of how far I've come and motivated me to work harder. I never imagined I would share the stage with Jisoo like this, speaking informally," added Jung Min, who was amazed to be able to act with Jisoo.
However, Jung Min felt disappointed because he didn't actually have many scenes with Jisoo. "Of course it's disappointing. Help us here. If 'Newtopia 2' happens, we can do well, right?" Jung Min concluded.
