NCT's Jeno held a live broadcast on Weverse, where he interacted with fans on February 7, 2025. At one point, fans brought up NCT's content, "It's Awkward But It's Ok," a program where members who are not very familiar with each other are paired up to interact.
Jeno responded to a comment about how fans wanted him to take a photo with Jisung at AWSAZ, even though the two already know each other. The idol eventually spoke further on the topic.
Jeno mentioned an episode of his appearance in 2020, when he performed with Taeil. Jeno mentioned that he performed with Taeil, before suddenly stopping and covering his mouth. The idol continued by saying that the person who took the photo with him didn't consider him close to him after appearing on the show.
"Taeil and I— oops. The member who took a picture with me at AWSAZ… I don't know if I can say that we became close friends just because we posed together for that picture. Let's move on!" Jeno blurted out.
This marks the first time Taeil has been mentioned by an NCT member since his sex crimes were revealed. Previously in August 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Taeil would no longer be a member of NCT due to a then-unspecified sex crime.
According to the investigation, Taeil and his two friends were questioned by the police for raping a drunk woman. It was noted that the other perpetrators who raped Taeil were not celebrities or famous people. Taeil's case was included in the special rape category.
If Taeil admits to the charges, he could face more than seven years in prison under the law. Regarding this, SM Entertainment commented briefly, "The case is under investigation and it is difficult to provide a statement at this time." The victim of Taeil's sexual crime was a foreign woman.
The rape took place in June 2024. Then on October 16, SM Entertainment officially announced that they had terminated their contract with the former NCT member. SM said in its statement, "We would like to inform you that our exclusive contract with Taeil has ended as of October 15, 2024.
Taeil is currently being investigated by prosecutors for a criminal case." Since then, Taeil's traces have been erased, and until now, no NCT member has mentioned him. Now, there is no update regarding Taeil's legal case.
