Actor So Ji Sub shared his enthusiasm after returning to star in an action drama after a 13-year absence from the genre. “I wanted to show an action that has an ‘introduction, development, climax, and ending’ plot,” he said at a press conference for the new Netflix series titled ‘Mercy for None’ held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel on June 5, 2025.
In 'Mercy for None', So Ji Sub plays the character Kijun, a former assassin with extraordinary abilities. The story centers on Kijun who, after severing ties with a criminal organization by severing his own Achilles tendon 11 years ago, returns to uncover the truth behind the death of his younger brother, the organization's second-in-command, while on a mission of revenge.
So Ji Sub explained that action plays a big role in the series. “The director has designed a big framework, but we discussed a lot. We wanted to avoid unnecessary action. We also tried to distinguish between ‘subduing’ or ‘punishing’ in the process of revenge,” he said. This marks So Ji Sub's first return to the action genre since the film 'The Company Man' in 2012.
"I've wanted to return to action for a long time. I see action as 'dialogue through the body'. I want the energy and emotions to be conveyed well," he said. He also added that the intensity of the action in 'Mercy for None' was deliberately made to increase gradually as the story progressed, creating a dynamic plot.
In addition to So JiSub, the series 'Mercy for None' also stars famous actors such as Heo Joon Ho, Gong Myung, Choo Young Woo, Cha Seung Won, and Lee Jun Hyuk. The series will premiere on Netflix on June 6, 2025 and is classified as content not suitable for minors.
