Veteran South Korean actor Song Young Kyu has been officially handed over to the prosecution after undergoing police questioning on suspicion of drunk driving. This information was later confirmed and immediately shocked the public, given that Song is currently starring in several popular dramas.
According to a News1 report on July 25, 2025, the Yongin Dongbu Police Department in Gyeonggi Province transferred Song Young Kyu's case to the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office without detention late last month. He was charged with violating the Road Traffic Act for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The case began on June 19, 2025, at approximately 11:00 PM local time, when Song allegedly drove approximately 5 kilometers while intoxicated. He was driving from Giheung District to Cheoin District, Yongin. An eyewitness reported the incident to the police, suspecting a driver driving while intoxicated.
Police then tracked Song's vehicle and successfully intercepted it. A breath test revealed Song's blood alcohol content exceeded 0.08%, the minimum limit for driver's license revocation in South Korea. Investigation revealed that Song had been drinking alcohol with friends in the Giheung area before deciding to drive home alone in his private car.
However, police declined to reveal further details about the investigation. Song Young Kyu himself is no stranger to the entertainment industry. He began his career in 1994 with the children's musical "Wizard Mureul," and has since become known as a spotlight-stealing supporting actor in various dramas and films.
Currently, Song plays Father Yoon Se Hoon in the Monday-Tuesday drama ENA Eye Shopping. Not only that, he is also scheduled to appear as Kim Min Joong, the coach of the Daesang High School rugby team, in the latest SBS drama Try: We Become Miracles which will premiere on July 25, 2025, coinciding with the news of this DUI case .
