The public was shocked by the newly revealed news regarding South Korean actor Song Young Kyu, who is currently facing legal proceedings for alleged traffic violations due to drunk driving. The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of July 19, 2025 at around 11 p.m.
Song Young Kyu is said to have driven five kilometers, starting from the Giheung-gu area to Cheoin-gu in the Yongin region. Based on the report, police officers immediately took action after receiving information from an eyewitness who was suspicious of the driver's condition at that time.
Officers then managed to stop the vehicle driven by Song and conducted an inspection. The blood alcohol meter showed a reading above 0.08%, a reading high enough to warrant revocation of a driver's license under South Korean traffic laws.
Reports said that Song had attended a meeting with some acquaintances around Giheung before deciding to drive home himself. Police representatives declined to provide additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.
Without undergoing detention, Song Young Kyu's case has now been handed over to the Suwon District Prosecutor's Office for further handling. Song Young Kyu is known for his contributions to the world of acting since his debut in 1994 in a children's musical.
His career continues to shine through various prominent roles in films and television series. Some of his notable works include the popular film 'Extreme Job', as well as his appearances in Netflix and Disney+ projects in recent years.
This year, he is appearing in the drama 'The Defects' as priest Yoon Se Hoon. He is also scheduled to appear in the SBS drama 'The Winning Try' and is active in the stage play 'Shakespeare in Love' which is currently running until mid-September 2025.
