EXO-CBX, a sub-unit of EXO consisting of Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin, was declared the loser in a lawsuit against their former agency, SM Entertainment. According to JoongAng, EXO-CBX lost several lawsuits, including demands for data disclosure and unfair contract violations. The court dismissed the lawsuits due to the plaintiffs' lack of basis for their claims.

Previously, EXO-CBX requested SM Entertainment provide transparency data for EXO's 13-year activities in a Seoul court. The court requested the data be submitted after the new exclusive contract is filed. "The submission submitted is speculative in nature without mentioning specific figures," the court said.

The request to inspect and copy the accounting books was also rejected by the court on the grounds that "The application for the case is a means to achieve the purpose of ordering the submission of documents or to psychologically pressure SM Entertainment by maintaining this case." EXO-CBX had filed an appeal twice, but the court rejected the request, directly stating that SM Entertainment had won the case.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Culture and the Korean Practical Trade Commission also did not find any violations in the exclusive contract between SM Entertainment and EXO-CBX considering that SM provided confidential data to the three members. Until now, EXO-CBX has not released an official statement regarding the court's decision.

The day before, EXO announced a fan meeting titled EXO'verse which would be attended by six members namely Sehun, Chanyeol, DO (Doh Kyungsoo), Kai, Xiumin, and Lay without mentioning the involvement of Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin. At the same time, EXO also announced plans to release their 8th studio album which is scheduled for next year.
