BTS' Jin recently sold one of his luxury apartments in Hannam The Hill, Yongsan District, Seoul, for 12.7 billion won. The high-profile sale took place on April 6, 2026, but the official ownership was only finalized on July 27 after full payment was received.
Jin purchased this 235-square-meter apartment in July 2019 for 4.49 billion won. With the difference between the purchase and sale prices, he made a profit of approximately 8.2 billion won after nearly seven years of ownership of the property.
Interestingly, there was no mortgage registered when Jin purchased the apartment, suggesting he paid in cash. The new buyer, born in 1979, also apparently completed the transaction without taking out a mortgage. Prior to this sale, Jin owned three units at Hannam The Hill.
In November 2019, he purchased another 206-square-meter unit for 4.27 billion won, and in March 2025, he purchased a larger 243-square-meter unit for 17.5 billion won, setting a then-record price for the complex. Following the latest sale, Jin now owns only two units at Hannam The Hill.
The timing of the sale also drew attention, given that the contract was signed in April 2026, shortly before the government reinstated higher capital gains taxes for owners of double-family homes in designated areas starting May 10, 2026. Meanwhile, property taxes on luxury homes are expected to rise.
According to estimates by Woo Byung Tak, a specialist at Shinhan Premier Pathfinder, the annual property tax for a 235-square-meter unit at Hannam The Hill could rise from 87.3 million won this year to 137.2 million won next year. Hannam The Hill is one of the most exclusive apartment complexes in South Korea.
Developed by Daewoo E&C and Kumho Industrial, the complex was completed in 2011 and consists of 600 units across 32 buildings. Known for its privacy, spacious layouts, and luxurious amenities, Hannam The Hill has long been a favorite with celebrities and business leaders.
Some famous residents who have lived here include LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang Mo, NCsoft CEO Kim Taek Jin, actors Ahn Sung Ki, So Ji Sub , and Han Hyo Joo, and singer Park Hyo Shin BTS also once lived here as a group dormitory.
