Barracuda Music as the concert promoter announced that all of Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour show schedules in Vienna, Austria, were forced to be canceled due to the threat of ISIS terror attacks. The concert cancellations include concerts that were supposed to take place today, Thursday August 8 to Saturday August 10, 2024.
The news was conveyed by the promoter through the latest upload on Instagram on Wednesday August 7, 2024 evening. "Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour Vienna shows have been cancelled following government officials' confirmation of a threat of a planned terrorist attack," Barracuda Music wrote.
"With confirmation from government officials of the threat of a terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel all three days of performances for everyone's safety." Barracuda Music promises to refund all viewers who have purchased tickets within 10 working days.
Previously, there were around 65,000 spectators estimated to attend each concert per day on Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour. On the other hand, Austrian authorities arrested two ISIS sympathizers on Wednesday August 7, 2024 who were confirmed to be planning a terrorist attack at a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna.
At a press conference, Austria's top security chief Franz Rup said one of the suspects was a 19-year-old man who had pledged allegiance to ISIS "in recent weeks." The suspect was detained in Lower Austria, about an hour from the capital, on Wednesday morning.
"We have established that there were appropriate preparatory measures and also that the 19-year-old perpetrator was directed to the Taylor Swift concert in Vienna," Ruf said, as reported by AFP.
Just one day before the announcement of the cancellation of the Vienna concert, Taylor Swift first expressed her excitement to perform in Vienna and London as the end of her European concert tour. She expressed her feelings when she had just finished a concert in Warsaw, Poland. "I can't believe we still have 2 cities left on the European leg of The Eras Tour. Time flies. See you soon, Vienna!" said Taylor Swift.
