ILLIT just made a comeback on October 19, 2024 at 6 PM through their second mini album “I'LL LIKE YOU” with the title song “Cherish (My Love).” “Cherish (My Love)” is a dance pop song with a catchy hook. The song conveys the meaning of appreciating the feeling of liking someone.
When I first heard the song, I immediately liked it because the tune is catchy and easy listening. As usual, this kind of music is very typical of ILLIT. Bright concept, cheerful tune, depicting love, but also feels different. I call it different because there are two odd lyrics in this song.
Namely, "although God also can't stop my feelings" and "God has given up on stopping me". This part feels weird and immediately makes me frown because the lyrics seem to belittle God. Maybe ILLIT didn't mean it that way. They may want to convey that their feelings are big and sincere to the point that no one can control or stop them.
However, using this phrase seems inappropriate. Moreover, they were previously rumored to be connected to a cult. Although this rumor has not been proven true, using lyrics like this will only make some people remember the rumor.
Even so, I love ILLIT's cheerful style. Both when singing, dancing, and expressing to their outfits. All of this is supported by the all-pink and brightly colored set. The 'teeth' theme they carry in their music video also feels unique. Although I don't understand the concept, the various tooth-shaped properties look interesting.
It starts with swollen gums but emitting light. Then the members checking the mouth. Then there is a giant tooth, to the scene of throwing the tooth before it finally lands in a glass. Everything feels unique and fresh. Lastly, I also like ILLIT's cheerful dance. The movements look aesthetic and can be performed by all idols, both male and female.
But on the other hand, this dance is also girly and highlights ILLIT's fresh side. This song is suitable as a background content on social media. Its bright tone can attract the attention of many people to continue listening. But on the other hand, this song also feels boring if it is heard repeatedly in its entirety.
