Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin were guests on the YouTube program "Zzanbro" hosted by Shin Dong Yup on January 6, 2025. On that occasion, Lee Min Ho opened up about the harsh criticism he faced during the beginning of his career.
When discussing his career, Lee Min Ho reflected on some of the challenges he faced, including the overwhelming wave of hate comments after the first episode of “Boys Over Flowers” aired in 2009. At the time, the actor played the character Go Jun Pyo.
Lee Min Ho shared, "When the first episode aired, my personal Minihompy (a social media platform at the time) was flooded with malicious comments. Around 500-600 thousand people came to my page just to curse at me."
The actor explained why he received so much backlash. "It was because my character bullied Geum Jan Di (Ku Hye Sun). I started to wonder if I had done something really wrong and felt really worried," Lee Min Ho said. However, the hate comments didn't last long.
Things took a positive turn as the drama progressed. "Fortunately, those who hated MY character at the beginning ended up liking him later on," the actor added, recalling the dramatic change in audience perception as the plot progressed.
Hearing that, Hyo Jin immediately teased the actor by commenting, "If the drama aired now, you would be sued. Lee Min Ho jokingly responded, "It's not even a lawsuit, I wouldn't even be able to appear on the broadcast." During the episode, Min Ho also talked about connecting with people in various fields.
"I enjoy meeting people who have different perspectives from me, like entrepreneurs or IT leaders," the actor revealed. Lee Min Ho further said, “I feel closer to people who don’t seem to change, even if we meet after years of separation.”
After that, he shared that it had been a long time since he last played a character who felt inferior. "Experiencing someone's disdainful or cold gaze makes me feel hurt. However, I think I'm probably the worst at giving such gazes in my role as a rich character," said the star of the drama "The Legend of the Blue Sea."
Meanwhile, Hyo Jin and Min Ho are currently starring in a drama titled "When the Stars Gossip". This drama tells the unexpected love story between commander Eve (Kim Hyo Jin), who works on a zero-gravity space station, and Gong Ryong (Lee Min Ho), a tourist on the space station who comes with a secret mission.
