The latest news comes from Moon Taeil, former NCT member. He was charged without detention for a rape case that was reported in 2024. According to Hankook Ilbo, Taeil and two other men were charged with sexually assaulting a drunk woman.

Quasi-rape is when the assault is committed by two or more people and the victim cannot defend herself when the perpetrator is carrying a weapon. In June 2024, a woman reported Taeil and two men to the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul.

Taeil had responded to the summons in August 2024 before the case was continued to investigation. Police had issued an arrest warrant for the Starlight singer and two perpetrators but the court rejected it. The court explained that the perpetrators admitted their crimes and were unarmed when they committed the act.

However, Taeil did not attend the examination due to health reasons. He also included a doctor's letter and legal opinion from his lawyer. Amidst the initial investigation, SM Entertainment terminated Taeil's exclusive contract as an NCT member due to the harassment case.

The case came to light a few months after NCT 127 wrapped up promotions for their latest album, Walk. Taeil debuted in 2016 as a member of NCT U with Doyoung and Jaehyun. Later, Taeil was active as a member of NCT 127 and sang several solo projects outside the group.

“Taeil being investigated for a crime is the cause of the contract termination and our trust in him as an artist has ended,” SM Entertainment said in a statement announcing the contract termination. After the contract ended, Taeil also locked his Instagram account from the public.
