Park Hyung Sik was a guest star on tvN's "You Quiz on the Block" on April 2, 2025. On that occasion, the actor revealed the bitter reality of his idol life. He admitted that he was bullied when he was a trainee. Park Hyung Sik began by recalling his childhood dream, which came true after receiving unexpected praise for singing in a car.
"The entertainment industry feels like a completely different world to me," said the actor. "However, I won an award in a school band contest, and casting agents started giving me their cards. When I showed my card to my mom, she said, 'Oh my gosh, maybe you really have potential,'" Park Hyung Sik added.
At just 13 years old, Park Hyung Sik was so determined to protect his singing voice during puberty that he entered a self-imposed silence. "I could barely speak, let alone sing. I was so anxious," he said. After three years as a trainee, Park Hyung Sik debuted with ZE:A at the age of 20.
He originally trained with the hopes of joining a ballad group, but soon realized the reality of being an idol was different. "I didn't know how to perform music with electronic sounds. I never imagined I would dance," he added.
Even as ZE:A's main vocalist, Park Hyung Sik admits that his parts in songs are often only five seconds long. "Honestly, being the main vocalist doesn't mean much. Dong Jun does everything. You could say Kim Dong Jun is ZE:A," Park Hyung Sik joked. The idol highlighted his physical discomforts of living the idol life.
"The nine of us shared one Carnival van. Since we were seated by age, Dong Jun and I always sat in seats without headrests. In the dorm, we shared one bathroom with our manager," Park Hyung Sik revealed. Park Hyung Sik revealed that his journey began with rejection and being shunned by fellow trainees.
"I didn't pass the audition, so I looked like a nepotistic choice. People avoided me. I thought that was trainee life, everyone kept their distance. But the ZE:A members took me out of that small, musty room and into a bright place," he recalled.
After debuting, Park Hyung Sik realized that surviving in the industry requires more than just talent. "It was like a jungle. I felt desperate and went to the agency saying, 'I'll do anything, just give me something.' That's how I started acting," he said.
