Taiwanese actor Darren Wang has been released on $150,000 bail again after being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder. As reported by Taiwan News, the New Taipei District Court ruled that Darren Wang was released on bail, while Yu, the other perpetrator, was detained without visitation rights.
The 33-year-old actor, best known for his role in Our Times, recently received widespread media coverage for his military evasion plans. When the New Taipei District Prosecutors' Office investigated the case, they managed to find chat records and recordings that allegedly contained orders for the attack.
The incident reportedly happened last year when Wang used Uber to order a ride in Taipei. During the ride, Wang accused the driver of deliberately taking a longer route, which led to a verbal altercation. When he got out of the car, Wang realized he had left his keys inside.
Unable to open the door, he reportedly banged on the window, which angered the driver. Wang then noted down the car's license plate number and complained to a man surnamed Yu, who reportedly ordered someone else to track the vehicle.
The driver was later found in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, attacking the driver, and recording the incident on camera as evidence. New Taipei prosecutors then launched a search operation Tuesday morning on charges of "attempted murder." Officers searched several locations and arrested Wang and Yu, while arrests of other suspects are ongoing.
At around 11 p.m. on Tuesday (March 4, 2025), the New Taipei District Prosecutors' Office reported that Wang and Yu were suspected of committing assault under the Criminal Code and illegally using personal information in violation of the Personal Data Protection Act. Wang is again facing further charges of asking public officials to record false information.
The case adds to a series of legal cases that Darren Wang has received after he was dragged into the case in February on suspicion of evading military service. Wang and nine others were arrested and it was discovered that the actor had spent a lot of money to make false claims that he had heart problems in order to avoid military service.
