Former NCT member Taeil has been officially charged with alleged rape. He was charged by prosecutors at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, along with two other perpetrators. The Women and Children's Crime Investigation Division of the Prosecutor's Office indicted Moon Tae-il and his two associates on Friday (February 28, 2025). They were charged with sexual crimes.
Quoted from the Korea Times on Tuesday March 4, 2025, Taeil was not detained because his arrest warrant application was rejected by the court. This charge was processed because Taeil and his two colleagues were said to have sexually harassed and raped a drunk woman in June 2024. The police then immediately filed an arrest warrant for Moon Tae-il and the other perpetrators.
However, the request was rejected as unnecessary because the perpetrators had confessed to their actions. The two perpetrators have come to the prosecutor's summons and insisted that their crimes were never planned in advance. Meanwhile, Taeil himself is still absent from the prosecutor's summons due to health issues.
The former idol's legal team is also said to have sent medical records and a statement regarding Taeil's absence. The case emerged after SM Entertainment announced that it had suddenly removed Taeil from NCT due to allegations of an undisclosed sexual crime case on August 28, 2024.
SM Entertainment then revealed that they had discussed this matter with Taeil until it was finally decided that Taeil would leave NCT. On the same day, Bangbae Police Station confirmed that they were investigating the alleged sexual crime case involving the artist. The police also denied allegations that the sexual crime was related to minors and homosexuals.
On August 29, 2024, Newsen reported that the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul had received a complaint from a woman referred to as A. A claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Taeil in June 2024. The former NCT member finally officially had his contract terminated by the agency on October 15, 2024. The agency stated that the exclusive contract ended after the case involving Taeil emerged.
