Girls' Generation's Yoona willingly took a risk while filming her latest film, "Pretty Crazy." She chose to jump straight into the Han River without a stunt double. Her daring act earned praise from "Pretty Crazy" director Lee Sang Geun.
In the film Pretty Crazy, Girls' Generation's Yoona plays Seon Ji, a beautiful woman who transforms into a demon every night. However, she has no memory of what happened the next morning. One of the most eye-catching scenes was when Seon Ji jumped into the Han River.
Instead of using a stuntwoman, Girls' Generation's Yoona decided to jump herself. Pretty Crazy director Lee Sang Geun admitted he was both surprised and impressed by her decision. "If you tell me to jump in, I don't think I can do it. I think Girls' Generation's Yoona was a bit worried too, of course.
She knew how deep the water was, but you never know what might happen in the river, so it was scary. Still, she insisted on doing it herself," Lee Sang Geun said in an interview with News1. What's even more surprising is that the scene was filmed in just one take.
However, Girls' Generation's Yoona pulled it off flawlessly, proving her acting prowess in this romantic comedy. "There were two divers hiding underwater during the scene. Once she dove in, she had to get out, dry her hair, change clothes, and so on.
So, there was only one chance to shoot the scene." "I was sitting high up on the boat with my camera, praying for the moment to come out right. We were both very nervous filming the scene. But since we only had one chance, we were very focused, and it worked.
It made me think, even when we're in doubt, we can do the impossible," the director recalled. In addition to the extreme scene of jumping into the Han River, Girls' Generation's Yoona also performed an intense mukbang scene to portray her character Seon Ji's obsession with chiffon cake.
Viewers can also look forward to her chemistry with Ahn Bo Hyun. Pretty Crazy tells the story of Gil Goo (played by Ahn Bo Hyun), an unemployed man who is shaken up when he takes a part-time job to watch over Seon Ji (played by Girls' Generation's Yoona).
Although seemingly normal as a bakery clerk during the day, Seon Ji drastically changes like a demon every midnight, appearing with curly hair and an all-red outfit. The film is scheduled to hit South Korean cinemas on August 13, 2025.
